Association of Independent Information Professionals Holds Annual Meeting Partnering with SCOUG

(Oak Creek, Wisconsin) April 30, 2002 -- The Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP) held its annual meeting in Long Beach, CA April 18-21. AIIP teamed with the Southern California Online Users Group to bring together over 180 information business owners and industry leaders.

Oak Creek, Wisconsin) April 30, 2002 -- The Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP) held its annual meeting in Long Beach, CA April 18-21. AIIP teamed with the Southern California Online Users Group to bring together over 180 information business owners and industry leaders. The conference theme was partnering and alliances. Keynote speaker Anthea Stratigos, President of Outsell Inc. predicted the continuation of acquisitions within the industry. Clifford Lynch gave the Roger Summit Award Lecture, and addressed digital issues that have arisen as we have gone from the Information Age of Scarcity to the Information Age of Abundance. Marissa Mayer, of Google Inc., the worlds leading search engine, talked about new online search products being rolled out by Google. James Chan, author of The Spare Room Tycoon, gave an entertaining and motivating talk to the group of entrepreneurial attendees. AIIP presented Amelia Kassel with the Sue Rugge Memorial Award for outstanding contributions in mentoring, and Angela Kangiser received the Myra T. Grenier Award for the most promising new business owner. Pam Wegmann of Information Matters was installed as AIIP President for 2002-2003, and Cynthia Shamel was installed as President-Elect.

Industry information software and knowledge management providers were well represented. Gold Sponsors, Dialog, Factiva, and LexisNexis provided free seminars and training sessions to attendees. Exhibitors representing the burgeoning information industry included askSam, Chemical Abstracts Service, Copyright Clearance Center, EBSCO Information Services, R.R. Bowker, Swets Blackwell, and H.W. Wilson Company.
