Mad-City Water-Ski Team Seeks New Members
Youve watched them perform daredevil stunts on Lake Monona in front of the Monona Terrace on Sunday evenings every summer. Now the Madison, Wisconsin based Mad-City Water-Ski Team is reaching out to you, members of the community, to join the team. Experienced and inexperienced skiers, of all ages and abilities, are welcome. This season is being dedicated to instruction, for new and returning members.
The Mad-City Water-Ski Team appreciates the support that it has received from the community. Now the team would like to return the favor. For those who have watched Mad-Citys ski show and thought, I can do that!", now is the opportunity to cash in on those fifteen minutes of fame. This year the show directors, Matt Heilman and Chris Coupland, are committed to building a bigger, stronger team. Our goal is to perform a 5-high pyramid by summer 2003. To support that initiative, we welcome anyone who is interested in show skiing to join the team this year!", says Matt Heilman. Heilman and his family have been a part of the Mad-City Water-ski team for the past 15 years.
While many of the current team members grew up with skis on their feet, others have learned their tricks through regular team practices. Because of the high costs associated with water skiing, many people feel ostracized from the sport right off the bat," says Chris Coupland. In the interest of eliminating those barriers, we have created an affordable instructional program, open to beginners of all ages. For approximately $150, we will provide all equipment and coaching for the entire summer, to prepare you to perform in a show within the next one to two years."
Still thinking that $150 is too steep? The team is one step ahead of you. Thanks to support from generous corporations, a limited number of memberships are being offered to youths in the Big Brothers / Big Sisters program. Corporate sponsors are still being accepted, and a generous advertising package is included.
The Mad-City Water-Ski Team, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has been a well-recognized and cherished icon in the community for over 20 years. Free shows take place every Sunday at 6:00 p.m., from Memorial Day to Labor Day, in Law Park (next to the Monona Terrace and Convention Center). The public is welcome.
For membership inquiries, call the team hotline at (608) 663-TEAM.
