Cerebrus Solutions and i2 step up fight against organised crime networks

Cerebrus Solutions, the leading supplier of telecoms fraud solutions, is joining forces with crime data analysts i2 to develop an advanced software solution to expose the complex criminal networks that use telecoms fraud to fund other types of organised criminal activity such as drug trafficking and international terrorism.

Criminal networks are increasingly using telecoms fraud as an easy way to generate cash. With the arrival of next generation services such as GPRS and 3G, telecoms fraud losses (currently $55 billion pa) could escalate as criminals exploit new opportunities to profit from the illicit trade in products and services that can be purchased anonymously over data networks using false identities and bogus credit accounts.

Through the collaboration between i2 and Cerebrus Solutions Ltd, the market-leading CerebrusRE fraud management systems case management package will give fraud analysts a flexible, easy-to-use solution to detect different types of fraud conducted via a multitude of apparently unconnected transactions over next generation telecoms networks. It will help law enforcement agencies and telecoms operators to identify the hard evidence to link disparate individuals to increasingly complex criminal networks where there is no visible connection between the people involved.
