Irish film 'A LOVE DIVIDED' to premiere in Los Angeles
Based on a true story of religious conflict in Ireland, A LOVE DIVIDED, a new film by director Sydney Macartney, premieres in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Film School on Sunday, June 2nd. Presented by the Irish Screen.
Inspired by real events which took place in Fethard-on-Sea, a small Wexford town in the 1950s, Shelia Kelly (Orla Brady), a Protestant, marries a Catholic farmer Sean Cloney (Liam Cunningham). They make a solemn promise not to let anything come between them, that is until the clergy interfere and insist their daughter attend a catholic school. Shelia flees with her children to Belfast.
Outraged Fr. Stafford (Tony Doyle) calls for a boycott on all Protestants in the village. Events spiral out of control as the Cloneys become unwitting pawns in a vicious battle between the churches which ultimately forces the entire country to take sides.
Directed by Sydney Macartney, the film stars Orla Brady, Liam Cunningham, Tony Doyle, Peter Caffery and Jim Norton.
