Found on pages 16 and 18 in the "Smarts" section, HBC’s president and founder, Steve Holben, is profiled and pictured by the custom home he was building in the Plum Creek section of Castle Rock at the time. The national exposure is actually an outgrowth of Steve’s request to his wife, Maggie, a Denver PR consultant, to help him gain awareness of his 25th anniversary in business here (the official date is June 9th). Maggie received a tip back in January that Entrepreneur would be putting out a special anniversary edition in May 2002, and that the magazine was looking for an entrepreneur to profile whose business is the same age as the magazine. She pitched the writer, Geoff Williams, and the rest is history.
Steve explains his company started in 1977, like the national magazine, and brings extensive experience in building, real estate, real estate brokerage and finance, project consulting, expert witness testimony and property inspection to his company’s clients and projects.
In addition to being one of the most enduring custom home builders in the area, HBC has a wide range of experience in commercial and industrial construction, all types of tenant build out, high tech, medical, process and federal construction. Major corporate clients have included IBM, General Electric and United Airlines. Major real estate clients include CB Richard Ellis, Trammell Crow and Cushman & Wakefield.
A Denver native, Steve is a graduate of the University of Denver and The School of Mortgage Banking. He has been an active real estate broker since 1974, a Denver "A" contractor since 1978 and is a member of the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver and University Hills Rotary Club. He and Maggie, owner of Lakewood’s Absolutely Public Relations, reside in the Bear Creek area of the city.
