Clean Air Partners & SYSCO Food Services of Los Angeles Foster U.S. Energy Independence While Reducing Emissions

Clean Air Partners (CAP), a leader in the development and commercialization of high-tech solutions to reduce engine emissions, has just announced that the L.A. branch of SYSCO Foods will be moving forward into the next phase of converting all of their Southern California delivery trucks over to running on natural gas, utilizing one of CAPs patented proprietary Dual-Fuel systems.

San Diego, Calif -- May 6th, 2002 - Clean Air Partners (CAP), a leader in the development and commercialization of high-tech solutions to reduce engine emissions, has delivered 33 Caterpillar (CAT) C12 engines, equipped with its patented Dual-Fuel technology, to SYSCO Food Services of Los Angeles, Inc. (SYSCO L.A.), a subsidiary of SYSCO Corporation (SYSCO). As the largest food service marketing and distribution organization in North America, SYSCO believes in setting a good example for others to follow. Committed to providing and maintaining clean and healthy environments for its employees and customers, SYSCOs environmental consciousness extends to the communities it serves and lives in as well. As a demonstration of this commitment, SYSCO L.A. has embarked upon an ambitious clean fuels" program for its Southern California truck fleet.

In 2001, SYSCO L.A. and Clean Air Partners began to replace SYSCO L.A.s fleet of heavy-duty diesel trucks with units powered by clean Liquid Natural Gas (LNG). By 2008, the company hopes to have its entire L.A. based fleet converted to Clean Air Partners Dual-Fuel LNG systems, effectively reducing the trucks emissions by over 46 percent. In addition to taking an active role in reducing Southern California air pollution, SYSCO L.A. and Clean Air Partners are also doing their parts to foster U.S. energy independence. Through this program, Clean Air Partners Technology will have reduced SYSCO L.A.s petroleum fuel consumption by nearly one million gallons per year, by displacing it with domestically produced natural gas.

SYSCO L.A.s new heavy-duty trucks are fitted with Caterpillar C-12 Dual-Fuel engines. This technology uses 85 percent natural gas (for power) and 15 percent diesel (as a liquid spark plug) to provide up to a 50 percent reduction in emissions, without sacrificing diesel-like performance.

Clean Air Partners (CAP) was founded in 1991, by Chief Technology Officer John Beck, Ph.D., to develop technologies that would allow diesel engines to operate with the low emission benefits of natural gas while retaining the power, efficiency, longevity, and cost effectiveness of compression ignition engines. CAP offers time-proven products, which are based on its patented proprietary technologies. About 1,500 heavy-duty truck engines that have been retrofitted with CAP Dual-Fuel systems and products are currently deployed in the U.S., Mexico and various European countries. CAPs sub-components are used in low emission vehicles produced by some of the worlds largest automotive and truck manufacturers. CAP is currently developing innovative low emission Electric Power Generation products for the distributed generation market.
