Business Darwinism" by author Eric A. Marks Helps Corporations Evolve or Dissolve

New business strategy book provides a strategy and tools to help corporations successfully adapt themselves to business change; survival of the fittest.

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- (May 1, 2002) -- Author Eric A. Marks has released his first business strategy book entitled Business Darwinism -- Evolve or Dissolve: Adaptive Strategies for the Information Age" published by John Wiley and Sons (ISBN 0-471-43441-8). This cutting-edge book provides insights into how corporations of today must use their information technology capabilities and processes to more effectively operate increasingly information-based business models. Corporations that use information technology (IT) in this fashion, a discipline called Information Mastery" by Eric Marks, will survive and thrive, while those that dont will be de-selected by the business version of natural selection.

Businesses of today are increasingly run on information, yet most business leaders do not invest in information resources accordingly," states Marks. This book challenges many of the management tenets of existing corporations. While business models have become increasingly dependent on information for their profitable execution, many executives still do not understand how to unlock the information value contained within their business enterprise. This book provides the strategy and tools to help them do so," remarks Marks.

A primary theme of Business Darwinism -- Evolve or Dissolve is that corporations have built themselves around rigid strategies, business models and organizational structures, while the business landscape exerts pressure on corporations to change. To resolve this quandary, Marks has developed a change model, called a Business Evolution Model, to help determine what changes are necessary for a firm during its evolution, as well as how to implement those changes in the form of business and technology initiatives. This is accomplished by flexing a firms business architecture in lockstep with its information technology (IT) architecture.

Business Darwinism provides the strategy and tools to help corporations maintain business fitness by adapting their business models to environmental changes over time. This, according to Marks, is a new discipline called Business Evolution Management. Business Evolution Management is the proactive adaptation of business models to the business, competitive and technology landscape by architecting agility into the corporate structure and capabilities," states Marks. Firms that learn how will survive and win, and those that dont will perish."

Mr. Marks is currently working on his next business strategy book with co-author Mark Werrell, entitled An Executives Guide to Web Services." Web Services is the next frontier for information technology, and it promises to revolutionize the way software is built, distributed and used by corporations and consumers around the world. This book, also from John Wiley & Sons, will be completed in Summer of 2002 and is scheduled for release in Spring of 2003.
