Fast Track Summer Intensives at The New York Botanical Garden

This summer come to the Garden and earn credits toward a certificate in Floral Design, Botanical Art & Illustration, Landscape Design, or Horticultural Therapy. These intensive classes are a great way to launch the certificate program in a short amount of time to help jump-start your career, prepare you for entry-level positions in plant-related occupations and obtain salary increments or increase responsibilities in you current positions.

Bronx, NY -- May 9, 2002 -- This summer come to the Garden and earn credits toward a certificate in Floral Design, Botanical Art & Illustration, Landscape Design, or Horticultural Therapy. These intensive classes are a great way to launch the certificate program in a short amount of time to help jump-start your career, prepare you for entry-level positions in plant-related occupations and obtain salary increments or increase responsibilities in you current positions. In addition to professional development, the intensives can nurture a sense of personal enrichment. Intensives offered this summer include:

- Landscape Design Intensive - Monday-Friday, July 8 -- August 9, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. OR Monday-Friday, July 22 -- August 23, 9 a.m. -- 9 p.m.
Learn from the best in an unparalleled botanical garden setting. Explore garden design principles with esteemed landscape architects and designers. Learn how to prepare and present design solutions in an intimate and exciting studio atmosphere. Instructors take you through each stage of the design process: site analysis, program and concept development, graphics and perspective, plant selection and design installation. This summer intensive earns 181 hours (of the total 245 hours) toward the Garden's Landscape Design Certificate plus (optional) College Recommendation Credits.

- Floral Design Intensive -- Monday-Friday, July 9-August 9, 10 a.m. -- 5 p.m.
Would you love to learn the secrets of creating professional-looking floral arrangements? You can earn a Floral Design certificate in five weeks (plus an internship) in this specially designed Summer Intensive program. Classes include: Introduction to the Intensive, Arranging with Silk Flowers, Basic Centerpieces and Arrangements, Basic Wedding Design European Trends, and much more. This Intensive is a total of 150 class hours plus a 120-hour internship in a floral shop.

- NEW! Horticulture Therapy Intensive -- Monday, July 15 - Friday, August 2 - 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Summer 2002 could be the right time to begin a new career in the field of Horticultural Therapy. The use of plants to heal and rehabilitate people has become increasingly popular in our culture, and horticultural therapy programs are regularly offered in hospitals, nursing facilities, and schools. This fascinating program offers health-care professionals, horticulture specialists, and students new to the field the technical knowledge and practical experience necessary to plan, execute, and evaluate horticultural therapy programs for special population groups. Courses include: Introduction to Horticultural Therapy, Introduction to Plant Science, Counseling Skills, People Plant Relationships I and III, Therapeutic Garden Primer and much more. In this summer intensive program you will earn 104 hours of credit toward the 175 hours needed for the Garden's Horticultural Therapy Certificate.

- Botanical Art and Illustration Summer Intensive Courses -- July and August
Are you highly motivated? Do you have ambition, a limited amount of time, yet are devoted to learning about art? If so, then register for Botanical Art and Illustration. Start with Drawing I followed by a concentration like Watercolor or Pen and Ink to expand your skills. Some Courses Include: Drawing I & II, Watercolor with Colored Pencil Overlay, Pen & Ink I & II, The Art of Illustration, Carbon Dust Creativity, Drawing Flowers, Drawing Trees, Botanical Watercolor I, and much more.

No experience is necessary to enroll in the intensives. Enter as a beginner and come out a master! There is a fee for all intensives and space is limited.
