San Diego, May 9, 2002 - MARKETINGWEB.COM announced today that founder Diane W. Collins accepted the position of chairperson for the Third Annual Memories in the Making Art Auction to benefit the San Diego Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Donald and Darlene Shiley will serve as Honorary Chairpersons.

In an effort to develop the event, Ms. Collins focused her attention on community sponsorship and awareness. "I felt it was important to expand the scope through greater corporate participation and the sale of event tables versus individual tickets," Ms. Collins said. "In addition, there was a need to employ more cost-effective means of spreading the word. We accomplished this through newsletter and billing inserts, save-the-date cards, an event website, and media trades." An inspired team, which implemented the strategy, has seen the event reach new records in revenue, sponsorship and community awareness.

The "Memories in the Making" Art Auction is part of the Memories in the Making art program, which promotes creative expression through art for those diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Experienced artists work with groups or individuals weekly in assisted living, nursing home and day programs using techniques that foster self-esteem and creative communication, all tailored to the needs and limitations of people affected by Alzheimer's disease. Individuals involved in the program who wish to participate in the Art Auction contribute their work. The artwork is then auctioned with proceeds benefiting the Alzheimer's Association- San Diego Chapter. Currently, Alzheimers disease affects more than 240,000 San Diegans.

The Memories in the Making Art Auction will be held on Friday, May 31st at the Balboa Park Club in San Diego, California. Registration will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by a cocktail and hors d'oeuvres reception in the Main Ballroom. Master of Ceremonies Jim Laslavic of NBC Channel 7/39 will introduce dignitaries and celebrities at 7:00 p.m. The Auction begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are $75 and may be purchased by calling 858.537.5040, ext. 107.
