10-Minute Hysterectomy Alternative Addresses Decades of Problems

BEI Medical Systems has developed the Hydro ThermAblator® -- a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure that eliminates or reduces excessive menstrual bleeding.

Teterboro, NJ -- A startling 600,000 hysterectomies continue to be performed yearly in the United States at an estimated cost of $5 billion. Nearly 200,000 of those hysterectomies are due to excessive menstrual bleeding, termed menorrhagia, and may be unnecessary!

For nearly 20 years, endometrial ablation has been a viable option for 2.5 million women suffering in silence with life-altering menorrhagia. Endometrial ablation techniques, however, had various problems with often horrific consequences. After extensive and thorough research, BEI Medical Systems developed the Hydro ThermAblator® (HTA®) to address these concerns. The HTA system is user friendly and employs rigorous safety measures. It is a minimally invasive procedure that circulates heated saline within the uterus to reduce or eliminate menorrhagia due to benign causes. An ongoing study of HTA indicates a success rate of 92.5 percent.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved HTA is a simple, 10-minute, outpatient procedure that requires no incisions. The technique can be safely and easily performed in a physicians office, which decreases patient anxiety. Local anesthesia is administered to the patient before a hysteroscopic sheath is inserted through the cervical canal and into the uterine cavity. The cervix forms a seal around the sheath before heated saline is allowed to circulate freely throughout the entire uterus to destroy the lining responsible for menorrhagia. The procedure can be viewed on a monitor by physician and patient through use of a hysteroscope.

Dr. Stephen L. Corson, medical director at BEI Medical Systems, says, "Candidates for this therapy are pre-menopausal women for whom childbearing is complete. Patients are usually back on their feet and participating in normal activities just 24 hours after the procedure."

Physicians across the United States are utilizing the new HTA device. For further information or to schedule an interview with a doctor using the HTA, and a patient who underwent the procedure, please contact Suzi Bruno or Jim Llewellyn at PRIME L.A., (818) 995-1290.
