HELP PICK THE NEXT LEADERS IN ART, FASHION, FILM AND MUSIC. iPLUGiN.com
iPLUGiN, a new arts and entertainment network that gives emerging and independent filmmakers, musicians, artists and fashion designers a chance at a wider audience, was announced today in New York City.
New York, NY. May 15, 2002 - iPLUGiN, a new arts and entertainment network that gives emerging and independent filmmakers, musicians, artists and fashion designers a chance at a wider audience, was announced today in New York City.
IPLUGiN, at www.iplugin.com is the creation of InTech C&S, Inc., a web development firm, and was borne out of its developers desire to give emerging and independent artists a better chance at success. To date, more than 200 artists have posted their work on the site and answered a series of questions to give viewers insight into their work habits and their hopes and dreams. For example, Teja Van Wicklen, an U.S.-based filmmaker, reports on the site that her work comes from a passion for living and people and a crazy life. So it isn't boring." A trailer from Wicklens film, A Candy Wrapper Dragon," is available for viewing on her Fan Club page.
Viewers of the site get to vote on which artists they like best and the artists are given Fan Club Ratings" based on their vote totals. At the end of each month, those with the most votes win a top-billed feature article on the site and an online store to sell their work. They may also gain access to industry insiders and get a boost along in their careers.
Kenmore Watson, the new networks CEO, says he thinks that at least a few of the artists already on the site may become household names in just a few years. "Would you know the next Madonna if you heard her? Would you be able to spot the next Spielberg? Everybody starts as raw talent. Our goal is to help the best artists rise to the top, while at the same time allowing consumers to get an early sample."
In addition, Watson says iPLUGiN will also be working to make sure the artists it showcases represent a variety of styles and countries. There is a whole lot of talent out there that doesnt fit into the Top-40 mold but is really innovative," Watson says. Mainstream entertainment companies may not be able to take a risk on these types of artists. But our network is a forum for more innovative talent to get a chance to succeed."
And Watson says the beauty of the site is that casual visitors get to see the careers in the making and may even be moved to buy what may later be known as the artists early works. A soft, engaging R&B song called Serenade" by a singer named Dini is a case in point. On her fan page on the site, the artist writes, The world is too hype sometimes. My music will put you in a chill, relaxing mood. Break out some tea and enjoy."
Is Dini the next Sade? You decide.
