ONeil requests Senators Reid & Ensign to seek reasonable compensation on upcoming Senate vote covering Yucca Mountain for Nevada.
Las Vegas, NV. - In a letter today to Nevada
Senators, U.S. House Candidate Pete ONeil called
on Nevada's elected representatives to introduce
the Las Vegas Valley Protection Amendment to the
Nuclear Waste Policy Act when the Yucca Mountain
vote is considered on the senate floor in the
coming weeks.
ONeil asked the senators to show political
leadership and help the state receive fair
compensation and protection." ONeil also
suggests that Nevada should receive additional
fresh water from the Virgin and Muddy Rivers
under his amendment.
The ONeil campaign takes action in response to
several groups of like-minded citizens who have
contacted him in the past few weeks. They have
asked him to make sure that the state doesnt get
stuck with the Yucca Mountain project without the
protections and compensation detailed in the Las
Vegas Valley Protection Amendment he's proposed.
Koby Kischer, a local business owner, one of many
local citizens that have joined the ONeil
campaign since reading about the ONeil Las Vegas
Valley Protection Amendment, announced he will be
hosting a dinner rally for Citizens for Fair
Compensation."
The group is demanding both senators support the
ONeil Las Vegas Valley Protection Amendment.
If they allow our state to lose in the house and
in the senate, and we lose in the courts -- which
we will -- we will hold Nevada's representatives
personally responsible for failing to act
effectively on this issue" noted Kischer. "We
have asked Pete ONeil to speak at this event
since he is one of the few local leaders to show
any concern about Nevada's citizens
getting their money's worth from government. Im
going to work hard to get ONeil elected to
congress to send a message to both parties that
they must remember to listen to the voters if
they wanted to elect candidates."
The Citizens For Fair Compensation event and media
conference will take place Wed. May 29th 2002 at
4pm-6pm at the Red Apple Grill at 3399 S. Jones (
Jones and D.I.) The owner of the restaurant,
John Baietti (who is a supporter of ONeil) will
be offering Free Chicken Dinners to all who
attend.
