UK company secures Simon Lee for key role
Early phase clinical drug development specialist Pharmaceutical Profiles has appointed Simon Lee as its new Managing Director.
Simon (39) joins the Nottingham-based company as it continues to see increased demand for its time saving services from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in the United States, Europe and Japan.
He brings extensive commercial and technical expertise to the company. A graduate in bacteriology and virology, he joined Smith and Nephew in 1985 and gained experience in various functions including laboratory, process and new product development and clinical development. In 1988 he began a six-year period with Napp Laboratories Medical Department working initially as a field-based Clinical Research Associate and then as Clinical Trials Coordinator in Phase III and IV trials. Following this period, Simon joined Ethical Holding Plc (now Amarin Corporation Plc) in 1995 as Clinical Research Manager (Phases I to III) and then served as its Head of Operations from 1996 to 1998.
He then spent four years in Sweden with Amarins product development subsidiary, Amarin Development AB as Managing Director, where he successfully introduced new business development and technology strategies designed to restructure and refocus the Malmö-based company.
Mr Lee is looking forward to working with the company and believes his experience will help take Pharmaceutical Profiles forward, explaining: I hope to bring the benefits of commercial and scientific knowledge gained in the industry to the company. I am lucky enough to have significant experience in the whole drug development and clinical trial cycle, as well as a variety of commercial skills which inevitably will be an advantage.
As a former client, I also have a good understanding and appreciation of Pharmaceutical Profiles specialist services. Even so, there is a real challenge for all of us to focus on developing our services to match the changing needs of the industry."
In conjunction with Simon Lee joining Pharmaceutical Profiles, Professor Ian Wilding, Chief Executive, will take on the new role of Executive Chairman. Professor Wilding explained, I am delighted to welcome Simon to Pharmaceutical Profiles. With his considerable clinical and managerial expertise, he is a valuable addition to the senior management team. I look forward to working closely with Simon as we drive the company forward into its next phase of growth".
Pharmaceutical Profiles-- which has facilities in the UK and USA -- works with many of the leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies to determine the performance and potential effectiveness of new drugs during the early stages of their development. This facilitates a focus solely on formulations with the greatest potential.
