Cuban Pete" and partner Barbara Craddock will perform mambo en clave in a rare New York City appearance that comes on the heels of Cuban Petes birthday (June 14). Their performance will be one highlight of the free, daylong event, which also features a concert by gold record vocalist Jose Alberto, El Canario. Both Cuban Pete and Barbara Craddock will serve as competition judges throughout the day, and Pete will be honored as celebrity host.

Both Cuban Pete and Barbara Craddock will serve as competition judges throughout the day, and Pete will be honored as celebrity host.

Cuban Pete and Barbara have made South Florida, itself a national and international stage" for Latin dance, home base for their dance activity since 1998. They were choreographic consultants and instructors for Miami City Ballet's innovative and unprecedented work, Mambo No. 2 a.m.", and they conduct "En Clave" workshops for dance professionals across the country, teaching the authentic rhythm of Latin music and dance. Recent television documentaries seen on NBC and PBS have featured Petes influence on mambo, including his work behind the scenes as choreographer and consultant for the movie, Mambo Kings.

Originally from New York's El Barrio (via Puerto Rico), Pedro Aguilar is a legendary dancer known worldwide since the 1950s for his talent and passion for the mambo genre; his nickname Cuban Pete" refers to a hit mambo tune of the day. His signature style made him an icon on the dance floor and continues to confirm his titles, "King of the Latin Beat," "Prince of the Palladium," and "Maestro of Mambo/Master of Clave." Recipient of numerous awards for his contributions to Latin dance, Cuban Pete invented scores of movements now recognized as standards of Latin dance.

Barbara Craddock, also a native New Yorker, has been a professional dancer since the age of 15 and brings more than 40 years of performance and teaching experience to the dance floor. She is a schooled ballroom dancer who specializes in Latin dance, but is also trained in ballet, tap and jazz. She has partnered with renowned dancers in New York, New Jersey and Florida, in both nightclub style programs and revues of varied dance styles.

The International Latin Dance Competition, with over $10,000 in prizes, is free for competitors and audiences to attend.
