Siemens Breakthrough To Create Nationwide Financial Communications Network

The network will have 30,000 users and will be set up by Siemens Austria following the winning of a contract with Inofmrations-Technologie Austria GmbH, Vienna, to supply and install a HiPath 4000 convergence platform for Bank Austria-Creditanstalt, Vienna.

More than 430 networked HiPath 4000 systems will make up what to date will be the biggest communication network based on the Siemens IP convergence architecture. The high cost-effectiveness of HiPath technology, together with its performance capability and receptiveness to future developments, were the decisive factors in awarding the contract worth tens of millions. The communication network will be set up in three stages and go into operation by the end of 2003.

The Bank Austria-Creditanstalt Group opted for the HiPath 4000 architecture because this solution guarantees a fast return on investment. Other factors were the protection offered for investments made in existing communication technology and the possibility of integrating IP technology into the voice network with the HiPath architecture at any time and at a freely chosen pace.

With the HypoVereinsbank in Munich having already chosen HiPath to implement its telecommunication system, this new installation for Bank Austria will make an international communication network possible within the HVB group, comprising over 60,000 users. The size of the communication network is evidence of the particular performance capability of HiPath 4000 architecture for use in very large enterprises. Seventy percent of Fortune 500 companies have already opted for Enterprise solutions from Siemens.

As part of this installation, Bank Austria-Creditanstalts employees will be equipped with optiPoint 500 phones and cordless Gigaset 4000 Micro. A particularly user-friendly feature is the corporation-wide display telephone book. Setting up the HiPath Xpressions Unified Messaging system with 20,000 voice mailboxes will permit secure and efficient message handling. The communication network will be administered and controlled centrally with the aid of the HiPath 4000 manager.
