Author Keeps to Himself, Mostly

Kansas author, Jim Dayton, finds following through print-on-demand and low-budget Internet marketing.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(LENEXA, KS, MAY 27, 2002) -- Jim Dayton, author of numerous short stories and poems, is using the Internet to affordably publish and market his book with remarkable results. Recently published through iUniverse.com, an online print-on-demand company, He Kept to Himself, Mostly has gained a grassroots following through Daytons use of e-mail and online marketing.

Dayton chose iUniverse.com for its affordable publishing costs and author-friendly contract. The book was published for under $100, and the royalty percentage is unbeatable," he said. His marketing campaign has consisted of a postcard mailing, a web site, and simply e-mailing his address book. Its amazing how many people will forward your message if you send them something interesting. Now, I get e-mail from people Ive never met telling me they love the book. Its weird and exhilarating at the same time."

His book, He Kept to Himself, Mostly, is a collection of thirteen short stories that examine the façade of 21st century suburban life, urban mythos, sexuality, and pop culture. My stories focus on what you may never see in the open, but will definitely see on the evening news," Dayton says. I concentrate on stories that 'couldnt happen here."

Jim Daytons first book, Random Acts..., was published in limited release in 1997. The International Library of Poetry and Poetry.com have nominated him Poet of the Year from 1999-2001. His work can be seen in the book Poetrys Elite: The Best Poets of 2000 and on the web at www.twistedjim.com.
