STORM CHASER MAKES HISTORY WITH DEPLOYMENT OF TORNADO PROBES
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, MAY 30, 2002 - Storm chaser Tim Samaras successfully deployed sensors in the path of an oncoming tornado. The in-situ tornado probes were able to record the wind speed, wind direction, barometric pressure drop, temperature, relative humidity, and video of the passing tornado.
This first-ever deployement of its kind on May 7, 2002 was made possible with the help of SWIFT WX Global Positioning System (GPS) software. "SWIFT WX was instrumental to this history making chase," said Tim Samaras, who used SWIFT WX to position himself directly in the path of the tornado.
SWIFT WX, which integrates with GPS technology, does what no other software can: track your physical location over any weather map in relation to storms.
The software is available at www.swiftwx.com and retails for $29.95 for the downloadable version or $39.95 for the CD-ROM.
