Current Verdadism Events, "Artist Against Violence" program will air live on Teen Talk Radio June 4th, 2002 from 4:00pm - 5:00pm, WNYE 91.5FM in New York City

Teen radio show addressing the problem of violence in New York's inner city interviews artist, Soraida Martinez, who is known for promoting tolerance and understanding through her socially conscious artstyle, Verdadism.

"Violence is greatly admired in the United States... so much so that boxers make millions; and boxers like Mike Tyson are treated with kid gloves, even when he is violent outside of the boxing ring. It is no wonder that kids think that violence is OK; and even necessary in order to make money. In this society, intellectual property is viewed as a powerless thing. Many people steal it and never pay; or they just dont acknowledge it. We need to grow intellectually and give money and respect to intellectual property, creative concepts and just good thinking. America, we need to grow intellectually; only then will we see our children do the same. I think that we are in our 2002 primitive electronic age: we feed ourselves too much and then we watch violence on television and then we love to see someone get bashed in the head in boxing or a hockey game." Soraida will be a guest speaker at a New York City public talk radio show dedicated to the kids of Harlem and the betterment of children throughout the inner city. This radio program is also designed to help inner city teachers discuss and publicly air the issues that they feel are important for the New York City school system. Since 1992, Soraida has been making social statements against racism, sexism, stereotyping and other social conditions.
