Toshiba Offers Polycom SoundPoint IP 400 Telephone for VoIP Solutions With the Toshiba Strata CS Communication Server

IRVINE, Calif., June 6, 2002 -- Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division (Toshiba TSD) today announced the availability of Polycom®, Inc.s SoundPoint® IP 400 desktop IP telephones for its popular Strata CS line of IP-enabled Communication Server products. With the Polycom SoundPoint IP 400 telephone and Intel/Dialogic computer telephony cards, the Toshiba Strata CS provides a turnkey Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telecommunications solution.

Using the Strata CS system with the Polycom IP 400, users can take advantage of all the local and remote user benefits of an IP telephone system," said Michael E. Durance, vice president and general manager of Toshiba Telecommunication Systems Division. The Strata CS also gives users the option of creating a mix-and-match communications system capability, using both traditional and VoIP capabilities to best meet their overall needs. They can do this by relying on the Toshiba solution, which is backed by Toshibas warranty, customer support, and national network of authorized dealers."
Each SoundPoint IP 400 telephone includes a large digital display screen, feature keys pre-programmed for use with the Strata CS, four context-sensitive soft keys, individual controls for speakerphone, handset, headset, and a mute button.

Internet/intranet calls can be placed from or to the Strata CS via an IP telephone or analog or digital telephone through the gateway from or to a remote IP telephone, NetMeeting PC, or another Strata CS system. While other IP telephones may work with the Strata CS, the Polycom SoundPoint IP 400 is the only IP telephone certified by Toshiba to work seamlessly with the Strata CS.

By adding IP telephones to their communications mix, users can get a cost-effective alternative to long distance charges," Durance added. In particular, using Strata CS with IP telephones enables businesses with remote offices in multiple locations, or individuals working from home or small offices, to reduce their long distance costs by routing calls inexpensively over IP networks."

IP telephone users have most of the feature set and functionality as those using analog telephones. To implement IP telephony on the Strata CS 4.0, the appropriate Dialogic IP card for network access and Polycom SoundPoint IP 400 telephone are required.

Users can also rest assured that their overall business communication needs are being met with the Toshiba Strata CS. Integrating all business communications, including voice, voice mail, e-mail, and integration with most popular contact databases, the Strata CS provides a comprehensive solution for all types of companies. It includes extensive automated attendant voice mail features, call management via software that resides on a Windows-based PC, and fully featured call center capabilities. Designed for small- to medium-sized users, Strata CS can accommodate a maximum capacity of 96 trunks and 264 telephones.
