LOVELAND, CO, August 2002 - The imaginative new activity book Haunting on a Halloween: Frightful Activities for Kids (Gibbs Smith, Publisher; $9.95 paperback; ISBN 1-58685-112-8; 6 x 8 in; 64 pp; Color Illustrations; August 2002) will teach kids of all ages the art of Halloween party planning, with yummy goulish recipes and scary stories that will make their guests shriek!

With fun tips on decorating the dinner table with headstone place settings, creating cool window designs, paper bats," and much more, it is chock full of scary ideas. Kids learn to prepare their own jack-o-lanterns from scratch -- starting with planting a pumpkin patch, growing the perfect pumpkin, carving the right designs, and toasting the seeds for snacks.

Haunting on a Halloween encourages children to come up with their own ideas for decorations and activities, and includes Bright Ideas" sidebars that offer alternatives and cautions to the activities or to potentially hazardous situations, like using disposable glow sticks instead of candles in a jack-o-lantern.

Linda White is the author of several childrens activity books, including Sleeping in a Sack, Cooking on a Stick, and Trekking on a Trail. She lives in Loveland, Colorado.

Fran Lee has illustrated and designed six titles in this series of kids activity books, including Wishing on a Star, Hiding in a Fort, and Fishing in a Brook. She lives in Portland, Oregon, where she and her husband run Coatimundi Studios, a graphic design and illustration firm.
