TERRESPHERE COMMUNICATIONS LTD. INTRODUCES A NEW CELLULAR BASED PRIVATE TRIP REPORTING SERVICE FOR RECREATIONAL BOATERS CALLED MARICELL".

AUCKLAND, NZ -- May 27th, 2002 -- TerreSphere Communications, Ltd. a technology company specializing in low cost wireless information delivery systems, today announced the introduction of MariCell, a cellular based private trip reporting service for recreational boaters. Service announcement to the New Zealand public is scheduled for May 30th at the New Zealand Boat Show in Auckland (for more info go to www.thenewzealandboatshow.co.nz).

Similar to an aviation flight plan, marine vessels submit an "Over the Air" verbal trip report using their marine VHF radio. By design, anyone monitoring the frequency knows your intention. For this purpose, the MariCell Service allows the recreational boater the option to submit a private and detailed trip report with a cellular phone. The information is instantly accessible to Marine Safety Organizations in the event of an emergency.

The MariCell software establishes a "Virtual WatchTM" for each logged vessel, only alerting Auckland Volunteer Coast Guard if a vessel becomes overdue, and the information to access the vessel if necessary.

Marine Safety Organizations have collaborated during the development of the MariCell Service. Also, the support by the local cellular telcos, such as Vodafone and Telecom are involved to keep costs down, by eliminating any subscription fees, which makes MariCell a low cost Pay Per Use" service for the cellular subscriber/boater. Usage is deducted straight from the subscriber's monthly bill or pre-pay service.

"This is the first collaborative marine service development effort, of it's kind", according to Craig Young, the company's president.

Cellular telcos are meticulous in maintaining their massive cellular network infrastructure. They are constantly improving and expanding new state-of-the-art wireless services and coverage. MariCell takes full advantage of those resources and provides value-added services tailored to the millions of cellular users and to those who enjoy recreational boating.

MariCell is introducing it's "Phase 1" service; utilizing the growing popularity of cellular Short Message Service "SMS" text. Only phones capable of sending and receiving SMS messages will be able to use the MariCell service at this stage. Several months to follow, Phase 2 services will allow optional use of WAP capable cell phones. These services will provide advanced features making it easier to use. MariCell also works with GPS Cell Phones, seamlessly providing your current position when submitting your Private Trip Report and as a tracking option.

MariCell makes it easy and simple to use, a minimum of eight characters is needed to file a detailed trip report. This is accomplished by the user registering with MariCell before using the service, providing their vital data in the event of an emergency. Registration is required, it is private and it is free to any user. The information will be used strictly by MariCell and marine safety organizations as required.

MariCell costs $1.95 NZ to submit and close a private trip report while in port where cell coverage is good, other messages are $.50 NZ per message.

For the proactive and safety minded boater, it is a very small price to pay for the quick and decisive action it can provide in enhancing the ability of search and rescue providers, to protect the user's life and property on the waters.
