PRESS RELEASE

TECH SHORTAGE IN RUSSIA

Russian HVAC contractors suffer from a severe lack of skilled workers, reported a visiting contractor from Astrakhan, Russia. LAMA Books of Leo A. Meyer Associates was host to a group of Russian small business owners who are interested in the operation of sheet metal shops. One HVAC contractor reported that he employed engineers for installation work because skilled workers were not available. The shortage of skilled technicians is more pronounced than it is in the United States.
The use of air conditioning systems is presently very limited, even in areas with very hot summers, such as Astrakhan, with a population of 650,000.
The visit was part of a three-week program of seminars and visits to different businesses conducted by California State University Hayward and sponsored by the United States Government. The group includes entrepreneurs from Astrakhan, Russia, who are interested in a variety of small businesses.
The group visited Leo A. Meyer Associates to examine the HVAC training books produced by LAMA Books, and to discuss sheet metal education with Leo Meyer, who has over 60 years experience in the HVAC industry and in education. The group is also scheduled to visit sheet metal shops in the Bay Area.
