Soulmate.com today named Patrick O'Leary as its new CEO. O'Leary's experience in online dating stems from histenure as founding President and CEO of MatchMaker.com, one of the largest Internet based singles and dating websites.

During his tenure, O'Leary and his management team built MatchMaker.com. Under O'Leary's management, Matchmaker.com remained profitable, and avoided the pitfalls of venture capital by means of creative marketing and advertising techniques. Matchmaker remained profitable until O'leary's departure in late '99.

At the time of O'Leary's departure, Matchmaker.com had over 4 million users serving out more than 200 million page views, while growing by 8% each month. During this same time, According to Jupiter Media Metrics, it was the second stickiest site on the web.

MatchMaker was sold to Lycos in July 2000 for 45 million dollars cash.
