SlimeCon Revives A Piece Of Children's Television History

CJOH-TV today announced it will host SlimeCon, the first ever "You Can't Do That on Television" fan convention and cast reunion. Taking place July 12-14, 2002, this unique event will allow fans as well as cast and crewmembers to come together in the same studios where the cult classic show began taping more than 20 years ago.

"We're all so excited to be bringing this event to life," said SlimeCon coordinator Byron Smith. "'You Can't Do That On Television' was a show that enriched the childhoods of so many people and this event will allow them to relive the wacky humor and bizarre characters that the show was all about!"

Organized by San Francisco's M Events management company, SlimeCon will be the very first convention of its kind. Attendees will be given the unique opportunity to tour the facilities where the show's magic was made for over 10 years, as well as view rare YCDTOTV memorabilia made available by CJOH-TV. Over thirty cast and crewmembers have confirmed their attendance and attendee registration is currently underway. Admission to the three-day event is $40 USD/$60 CDN.

"I am thrilled to be a part of SlimeCon," says Les Lye, who masterfully played all of the show's adult male roles for the entire run of the series and is a veteran comedic actor in Ottawa. "This event will give the show's dedicated fans a glimpse behind-the-scenes and allow them to interact with their favorite cast members. It will also be very special to have the cast reunited after more than 10 years."
SlimeCon's three-day event is packed with activities for every fan including:

·   Guided studio tour, featuring original pieces of the set
·   Cast autograph and photo sessions
·   Panel discussions, question and answer opportunities
·   Memorabilia museum
·   Slime raffle, where lucky winners will get doused in the show's                           trademark green slime
·   Ottawa bus tour, customized to sites meaningful to the show

About "You Can't Do That on Television"
Created by British-born Roger Price, and produced from 1979 to 1990 in the studios of CJOH-TV, YCDTOTV introduced kids to a wacky brand of in-your-face comedy featuring sketches, green slime and locker jokes. Considered by many to be a kids' version of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, the show was one of the driving forces behind the popularity of the American children's network Nickelodeon in its early years. The show produced its own line of shampoo and soap, a comic strip, and a spin-off series called Whatever Turns You On. More information about YCDTOTV can be found online at www.ycdtotv.com.
