Softswitches Help Phone Companies Return to Profitability, Says Insight Research
PARSIPPANY, NJ. June 19, 2002: Telecommunications companies eager to lower their operating expenses in order to return to profitability should immediately begin testing the innovative softswitch technology, a new report by INSIGHT Research reveals. The new switches utilize standard computer hardware to substantially reduce network operations and maintenance costs. According to INSIGHTs analysis, these softswitches have already begun replacing the multi-million dollar specialized equipment currently in place at the established phone companies.
According to The US Softswitch Market 2002-2007", using standard computer hardware to replace traditional phone switches will make it possible for phone companies to rapidly design and build new services for the public, the quickest way back to profitability. A pivotal advantage that new softswitch architecture maintains over older telecom switching technology is the separation of call processing from transport. This logical separation of call processing from the physical media gateways greatly simplifies the task of software design for a new service, since the service design is built independent of the network carrying it.
Hard times are focusing the phone industrys attention on softswitching because the new platforms bring real operational savings today. Over the longer term, however, the carriers will have to get back to revenue creation, and that is where softswitch technology will really shine," says INSIGHTs president Robert Rosenberg. As softswitches catch on, we expect to see specialized vendors springing up--some to design new services, and some developing the softswitching logic. Telecom hardware will become more akin to commercial computing hardware as the traditional telecommunications hardware market fades away," Rosenberg predicts.
The US Softswitch Market 2002-2007 forecasts adoption of softswitches by carriers, revenue growth, and the average prices.
