The Bennett Familie's Plight
John & Alicia Bennett of Ione, Ca., recently discovered all 3 of their children ages 2, 4, and 6,are suffereing from a rare, fatal genetic disorder.
John and Alicia Bennett have 3 children under the age of 7. In February, the Bennetts learned all 3 of their children will die of a rare genetic disorder. There is one ray of hope. Doctors at Duke University In Durham, NC, are performing stem cell transplants that may give the two youngest Bennett children a chance to live.
The Bennett children, Ciara, age6, Hunter, age 4, and Tommy, age 2, have Sanfilippo Syndrome. Children with this syndrome fail to produce certain enzymes that break down sugar. The body ends up storing sugar in internal organs damaging the heart, bones, respiratory system, and central nervous system, resulting in death by age 15.
Unfortunately, Ciara's disease has progressed to far to be helped.
The Bennett's insurance company hs declined coverage for transplants for Hunter and Tommy. The Bennetts are trying to raise the money for the transplants themselves. They have a long way to go and,if too much time passes, Hunter and Tommy will be beyond help like their older sister.
The Bennetts need to raise $1.550 million dollars. They have a website, www.helpachild.net. They also have established a foundation:
