Hampton, Georgia --June 19, 2002-Southern Charm Press author, Craig S. Tulepan (SOUL 2 SOUL") had no idea when he wrote his book about the bond between Father and Son, that it would take on a totally new meaning, become so incredible, painfully personal to him and his son that led them to having to deal with two different events that resulted from the attacks on 9/11.
The juxtaposition of these two events is a truly incredible story , whereas the author and son has captured national media attention, which continues to grow daily, states, Publisher, Kathy Williams.
Author, Craig S. Tulepan states, at 8:45 A.M. on the morning of September 11, 2001, I was on the 63rd floor of the South Tower of the World Trade Center. It was such a magnificent day; crystalline clear, the sky a dazzling shade of azure blue interspersed with tiny puffs of snow white clouds. The ships glistened in the sunlight as they sailed out from the harbor to parts unknown. The Grand Lady of Liberty, ever so proud, standing tall, her torch pointing to the heavens, welcoming all those who cherish freedom and justice to our shores...
Then a rumbling, low at first, then exceedingly louder and louder culminating in a thunderous explosion followed by tons and tons of yellow and white debris filling the skies. As I strained to look outward the room began to vibrate violently and all at once the windows blew out, sending shards of glass and chunks of cement flying in all directions. I found myself literally being sucked out of the window; flying through the air and then at the very last second, somehow managing to wrap my arms around a guardrail set within the window frame. I closed my eyes and hung on for dear life. Frozen with fear, hanging 63 stories above what would later be called ground zero" and seconds from what was sure to be my death I remember thinking about my wife and my son. Seeing their horrified faces as they learned my fate. All I could focus on; all I could see or hear or feel were the sights, sounds and images of my family and how much I truly loved them...
I am a survivor. The maelstrom of hate and destruction that descended upon us from the skies that day has forever changed my life. I am haunted by my memories, the demons dancing in the shadows of my mind. The series of events that unfolded that day and how they came to affect my life is a tale for our times. What makes my story all the more compelling is that 4 months later my son, Sergeant Randy Michael Tulepan, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines, Charlie Company, Third Platoon would be one of the very first Marines deployed to what is now known as Camp X-Ray at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and be called upon to guard the very same men that took a scared oath to kill his father and as many other innocent American men, women and children as they possibly could.
The juxtaposition and magnitude of these two incredibly historic events is almost inconceivable. Therein lies the story, states publisher, Kathy Williams. So much so that the author and his son has been interviewed live by MSNBC, ABC News in New York , Channel 12 News on Long Island, BBC, WABC Channel 7 in New York, major newspaper, and very recently The Today Show (weekend) and again on MSNBC for a special Fathers Day" segment. The military newspapers, Stars and Stripes and Defend America did feature articles about his son, the authors experiences on 9/11 and the extraordinary events that will forever bind then together. CNN and the New York Times has also done interviews. The media response has been very overwhelming states, publisher, Kathy Williams. The phones continue to ring daily with news reporters, bookstores, and customers wanting to know how they can buy the book.
