Internet/radio commentator Andy Martin is angry that Circuit City stores is ending sales of prerecorded videotapes.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
TALK SHOW HOST CALLS FOR NATIONAL BOYCOTT
OF CIRCUIT CITY STORES AS CHAIN ENDS
VIDEOTAPED MOVIE SALES
(NEW YORK) Internet/radio broadcaster Andy Martin will present a special edition of "Andy Martin's America" Monday, June 24, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. to call for a national boycott of Circuit stores because of the chain's decision to eliminate prerecorded videotapes.
| | - am distressed that a major retailer would eliminate a product for something which is in over 90% of American homes in order to feature product for something which is in roughly 30% of homes. This smacks of corporate arrogance and 'contempt of customer'" says Martin.

"Certainly DVD's are a growing format, but they are still an inconvenient format. 'Everyone' doesn't have a DVD. Almost everyone has a VCR. Why is Circuit City telling its customers to 'take their business elsewhere?' Often I go into a store to look for something, and end up buying something else. If I cancel the initial reason, I may never go to the store in the first place.
"Poorer customers own VCR's; wealthier customers are buying DVD's. Is Circuit City telling its poorer customers 'we don't want your business?' Instead of gradually phasing out tapes, they want to go cold turkey. This is as customer unfriendly an action as I have ever seen. I call on consumers to boycott Circuit City stores. Maybe then they will stop being so arrogant to people who patronize them," says Martin.
