Orange County California, Eagle Canyon Music. For the second consecutive year Adrienne Kirkey of Coto de Caza Ca. wins First Place Honors in the 2002 American Heritage Music Songwriting Competition sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). Kirkey placed first in both the National Competition and state of California Competition with her song titled, "You Never Told Me." Last year (00/01), Kirkey won both titles for her song "Sally Ann"
Adrienne explains the background of "You Never Told Me." "The song tells the story about a photo of my Dad during World II. He is standing on a muddy road in bombed out Aachen, Germany. Knowing he was one of millions involved in those events that changed the world is part of my heritage. Seeing pictures from that time of his life makes it much more personal."
In March of this year, Kirkey performed "You Never Told Me" at the state of California conference in Costa Mesa for the NSDAR. " It was a real hit" said her husband David. He watched the audience wipe tears from their eyes as Adrienne sang of the battles that raged and the memories that have lived on in the minds of everyone long after the conflict ended.
Kirkey has been invited to perform "You Never Told Me" for the DAR National Conference in Washington, D.C. in July 02 where she will be recognized by the DAR for both the state of California and national honors.
At the time of the competition, Adrienne was in the studio recording her new CD "The Child In My Heart," which contains both "Sally Ann" and "You Never Told Me" the CD is now available now from Amazon.com and the singers website, at www.eaglecanyon.com..
