General Defense Systems Board Member Nick Abaid will engage attendees on the topic of Biometrics in Government Applications. The tragic events of September 11, 2001, triggered a heightened awareness of the importance of national security, as well as the viable use of biometrics as a key component of an overall security strategy. As the largest consumers of biometric technologies, the U.S. and international governments recognize the vast opportunities for protecting government properties, personnel and the public through biometrics. Biometrics is not an end solution, rather a tool for a total security plan," states Abaid emphatically.
Thursday, June 27, 2002, at 11:30 AM -12:15 PM
John Carty, General Defense Systems vice president, will address Strengthening the Front Line with Biometrics -- the Challenges and Opportunities of Integrating Security Solutions. The U.S. Military, charged with the critical job of protecting citizens, must, in turn, safeguard and protect its processes and information. Biometrics may be used for training soldiers, securing entry to restricted facilities and controlling access to classified and sensitive information. Carty will educate attendees about some of the more practical applications of this technology for aiding all branches of the armed forces, as well as provide a case study dealing with securing a major U.S. port.
