AUSTIN, Texas -- Kevin Fowler, the Austin singer/songwriter who has won airplay and critical accolades, returns with High On The Hog, his third album on his own Tin Roof Records label (distributed by Southwest Wholesale), set for an August 6 street date. The Amarillo native whose roots are in country but who cut his onstage teeth with Texas hard rockers (and MTV stars) Dangerous Toys completes his full circle with a third solid album of Texas honky tonk music.
Fowler is joined on the album by Texas compadres Willie Nelson (who sings and plays guitar on "All The Tequila In Tijuana"), Tejano denizen David Lee Garza and an appearance by former Dangerous Toys lead singer Jason McMaster. Fowler produced the album with Daren Fleming.
In addition, Fowler and band perform in the soon-to-be-released Screen Gems film "Lone Star State of Mind," directed by Dave Semel.
Fowler has spent the past four years touring "every nook and cranny" of the Lone Star State as well as adjacent states, plus three or four shows in Nashville per year. High On The Hog follows Fowlers successful Beer, Bait & Ammo album, which sold in excess of 25,000 units -- impressive for an indie release. Kevin was a staple on the Texas Music Chart (http://www.texasmusicchart.com) gleaning more than 15,000 radio spins with its four singles.
"This is definitely not a Top 40 album," Fowler emphasizes. "Its a hardcore honky tonk record. It sounds like nothing coming out of Nashville at the moment. Its a lot closer to the albums Merle and Waylon and Shaver used to make. They were writing songs for the everyday working man, and thats what youll find here."
According to Willie Nelson, "Kevin Fowler is one of the top forces in the new Texas Music revolution. He great entertainer and a great songwriter who, in my opinion, should go a long way." Adds the Austin Chronicle, "This is some great, traditional sounding Country Music that should be on the radio, if radio programmers had any cojones at all." And the San Antonio Express-News, in a sneak preview of High On The Hog, predicts Fowler is "poised to set off a frenzy in the media and country music industry."
