PROTODEL International, one of the worlds leading developers of Evanescent field optical technology, makes a major step forward in the Asian market next month, when it will announce its partnership with I-Wave of Tokyo during the InterOpto 02 exhibition.
Visitors to the exhibition stand (No 259) in the Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall in Tokyo will have the first chance in Asia to see ProtoDels revolutionary power monitors, optical shutters and its latest polarizer technology -- half the size of previous designs.
Japan is without doubt one of the most advanced markets in the world and has a fibre rich network to prove it," said ProtoDels telecoms account manager Lee Nunn.
We had massive interest from Japan when we exhibited at the OFC exhibition earlier this year and we are delighted to able to announce our partnership with I-Wave to help us bring these world leading products to the world leading market."
ProtoDels power monitor technology -- the key to measuring and controlling fibre optic signals -- is non-invasive. It is the only product of its type in the world and uniquely operates solely within the evanescent field of the optical transmission, allowing the optical signal to pass uninterrupted and therefore allowing record low loss and back reflection performance. The company also produces the worlds first all fibre optical shutter specifically for the telecommunications market -- again on show at InterOpto -- and the worlds smallest commercial fibre optic polarizer.
We are very excited about being at InterOpto and working with I-Wave across the Japanese market for both equipment manufacturers and opto-electronic device companies," added Mr Nunn.
This will be the start of an ongoing campaign by ProtoDel -- initially in Japan but eventually spreading across the whole of Asia as we move forward."
I-Wave is a Tokyo based specialist value added reseller (VAR) of optical components, giving support for ProtoDels products and customers within Japan. Representing some of the leading optical component manufactures within the Japanese market. I-Wave are utilising the Interopto expo to officially announce their partnership with ProtoDel.

Notes to editors:
Founded in 1995 by Dr Giles, ProtoDel is one of the worlds leading providers of fibre optic components to the telecommunications, test and measurement and gyro markets. Its best-selling product portfolio comprises a world lead position in high performance low-cost Polarizers -- more than 50% of the world market - Depolarizers, All-fibre Polarization Controllers, Attenuators and Switches.
Strong continued year-on-year growth - despite the current downturn in the high-tech sector - is attributed to the companys specialist patented all-fiber manufacturing process. All components are manufactured using a continuous fiber with no in-line interfaces to impede the quality of the signal and no moving parts so guaranteeing greater reliability.
The company has won several awards for innovation and growth including a Department for Trade and Industry SMART Award in 1995 and SPUR Award in 1997.
ProtoDel is now on the fast track to become the premiere supplier of passive optical fiber components for optical networks.
Technical Note:
The ProtoDel power monitor has an insertion loss of less than 0.2dB, near zero back reflection (less than --70dB) and a PDL of less than 0.1dB. It has been developed at ProtoDels research and development headquarters in London, England. It has been designed to be Telcordia compliant (Telcordia -- 1221 -- CORE).
The new polarizer is half the size of previous products and features a steel tube only 30mm in length and 3mm in diameter. This new specialized device is available in three configurations (SM/SM 30mm, SM/PM 40mm and PM/PM 50mm), and offers a high extinction ratio (>50dB), with low insertion loss (<0.1dB) and near zero back reflection (<-70dB).
The Optical Shutter provides outstanding optical isolation in the 'Off condition, while allowing minimal impact on the signal quality for the 'On state. Low insertion loss, low PDL and near zero Back Reflection are assured due to the non-invasive technology.
