Oldest Woman In The World With A Website -- History Website Started For 110th Birthday

An Illinois woman has become the oldest known person in the world to have her own website. The site was created by her family as a gift for her 110th Birthday (June 30,2002)and is a history resource that tracks the amazing developments that she has seen in the past 110 years.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A 110-year-old Illinois woman became the oldest known living person with their own website on Friday (June 28, 2002) as part of her birthday celebration.

Family members created the site to honor Edith O. Jones of rural Ogle County, Illinois, for her 110th birthday June 30. The site features a timeline of the major historical events that have occurred during her lifetime and major inventions that changed life from the horse and buggy days era to the current era of space shuttles and international space stations. Links to her memoirs and other internet resources and a free newsletter signup are also included on the site.

The goal of the site is to share Edith's remarkable life and create an appreciation for history and the great social changes that have occurred in the US in a single lifetime, according to family members.

"Edith was a teacher, farm wife, and antique dealer as careers. Sharing history and her life with this website helps continue and advance her interests while she is still among us." According to grandson and webmaster Stephen Frew. He anticipates maintaining the site for at least a year and adding resources regularly.

Edith Jones is in good health in an Ogle County, Il community nursing home just a few miles from her birthplace and the farm that she has owned for more than 70 years. Mrs. Jones has been a widow for almost 30 years, but is surrounded by a large family of descendants. She was married to C. Avery Jones for more than 50 years.
