KPMG Consulting uses CABCs Background Delivery To get the word out to employees worldwide

Shoirt case study on how KPMG Consulting is using a new kind of internet content delivery system to communicate with employees worldwide

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) July 5, 2002 --On February 8, 2002, a small icon popped up in the lower right hand corner of the computer screens of KPMG Consulting Inc. employees, marking the launch of a new internal communications vehicle for this $2.8 billion global systems integrator.

When the employees clicked the view now" button, they were able to watch a full-screen video of KPMG Consulting Chairman and CEO, Rand Blazer, reporting on the progress the company had made since its initial public offering (IPO) 12 months earlier. And they were able to watch the five-minute, color video without the delays and stutter steps that usually accompany video delivered via the Internet.

Thats because the video wasnt delivered the usual way-by streaming media. Instead it was delivered by a new communications system called Background Deliveryä, which uses a proprietary technology to deliver digital content via the Internet and the corporate network without interrupting normal computer use.

Background Delivery-from Dallas-based CABC, Inc-creates a third channel" that is outside email and Web browsing. Through this third channel, content can be delivered to any computer with no limitations on the network or Internet connection.

To deliver the IPO Anniversary video, the system automatically monitored the KPMG Consulting employees data-connection bandwidth and current use, and then transferred the video in small packets using only available bandwidth with no effect on the employees computer operation or Internet experience. This happened whether the employee was in the office working off a desktop machine connected to the corporate network, or on the road working from a hotel room with a dial-up connection to the Internet.

When the entire five-minute video was delivered, the icon appeared informing the employee that the video was available for review. If the connection had been interrupted, the delivery would have continued the next time a connection with the corporate network or the Internet was established.

"Offering dynamic content to our employees is a priority for KPMG Consulting and the nature of our business lends itself to using video to communicate with our employees around the world," explained Sarah Martin, director of corporate communications for KPMG Consulting. But with the congestion that can occur on the Internet and within our own busy corporate network, we felt that employees were not always experiencing the full impact of the medium or getting our message.

CABCs Background Delivery gives us the confidence to know that wherever our employees are worldwide, they can receive and view communications as they were intended and do it without adding to our existing network congestion."

We used e-mail to direct employees to a website to download the application. Were now able to package and send content to employees whenever we have a need and they can receive it regardless of where they are." Also, employees are able to share certain types of content with clients right off their computers. This capability was especially valuable when KPMG Consulting launched its new advertising campaign with video case studies on client success stories.
