Fifth Annual Bacardi Recipe Classic
$27,000 in Cash Prizes to be Awarded

North Miami, FL -- May 31, 2002-Food creations that illustrate the versatility of BACARDI U.S.A. rums will vie for $27,000 in cash prizes -- with the Best of Show winning $10,000 -- when Johnson & Wales University hosts the Fifth Annual BACARDI Recipe Classic on Saturday, October 11th in Denver, CO. Deadline for submissions is August 15, 2002.
The contest is only open to Johnson & Wales University Alumni - 50,000 Strong. Entrants must be at least 21 years old to enter; Johnson & Wales University students are not eligible. Employees of BACARDI USA, Inc., affiliated companies and agencies, licensed retailers and wholesalers, including their employees and groups or organizations are not eligible to enter.
"The contest has proved to be an enormous success, with entries from culinarians nationwide," said Thomas L. Wright, senior vice president of Development for Johnson & Wales. "The caliber of the recipes and the way in which they showcased the exquisite flavors of BACARDI U.S.A. rums made for an exciting event."
Entrants are required to submit recipes that feature one of the following BACARDI U.S.A. products: BACARDI 8; Light; BACARDI Gold; BACARDI Limon; or BACARDI O. While entries will be placed in two categories -- hot or cold appetizers or entrees; or hot or cold plated desserts -- applicants may submit only one recipe per category. All recipes must be original and should appeal to the home-cooking enthusiast.
Recipes must be for 10 portions. Listing the ingredients in sequence of use, weight,
measure, method of preparation and amount of time needed to prepare and cook. A 4x6
color, head-and-shoulders photograph of the entrant and a 4x6" color photograph of the prepared dish must accompany each recipe. All entries must be typed.

J&W -- Bacardi Recipe Contest

Finalists will be flown to Johnson & Wales Universitys College of Culinary Arts in Denver, CO, where they will prepare their dishes. Winners will be announced the evening of October 12th. The single BACARDI Rum Best of Show winner will receive $10,000. First runners-up in each of the two categories will receive $5,000, and seven finalists will receive $1,000 each. All finalists will also receive a limited edition medal and certificate provided by BACARDI and Johnson & Wales University.
