dicas launch first fully MPEG-4-compliant consumer video codec
Video codec software developer releases application (mpegable X4), offers end-user fully compliant MPEG-4 coding, and includes free MPEG-4 player
Berlin, Germany - Software vendor dicas today announced the release of mpegable X4. This PC based software converts media files (AVI, MPEG-1) into MPEG-4 files (Advanced Simple Visual Profile, AAC LC), and offers real-time software encoding on high end PCs without compression hardware. The free demo version of the software package features a limited functionality MPEG-4 codec, but offers a fully functional MPEG-4 player. The full featured version costs $25. Both PC multimedia and DV enthusiasts will appreciate the disk-saving file sizes and high video quality of MPEG-4.
mpegable X4 is a Windows based stand alone application to convert media data to MPEG-4 files implementing the MPEG-4 encoder for video and audio data and enables real-time encoding on MMX-based processors above 500 MHz without any additional compression hardware.
mpegable X4 is aimed at end-users, who want to take advantage of the emerging multimedia standard MPEG-4 and is released in two versions: The full version can be purchased for $25. The free demo version is limited to 10 minutes of encoding with the mpegable logo embedded in the encoded video. Both versions are available from the mpegable website (www.mpegable.com). Both versions come with mpegable Player, a fully ISO MPEG-4 compliant player.
mpegable X4 is extremely easy to use but at the same time offers unrivaled functionalities, such as real-time encoding with bitrates scalable from 20kBit/sec to 1.5MBit/sec (constant and variable mode), a preview window, user defined resolutions of up to 352x288, pre-processing for cropping, down-sampling and de-interlacing, automatic scene cut detection and batch processing with a configurable job list of up to ten jobs.
Users will be able, for example, to experience a lot of saved space in their video archives and also to store a two hour TV quality video film on a regular CD assuming that the video has been encoded at a bitrate of 750KBit/sec.
"mpegable X4 is for everyone -- both newcomers to video coding and experienced users alike offering maximum quality at a reasonable price. There is clear evidence that the market demands such a product and the delivery of mpegable X4 is an integral part of our strategy to cater for both the end-user market and the high-end, professional sector, which we are delivering with our mpegable SDK as well as our integration and development services. MPEG-4 is certainly well on the way to become the global standard for compressed multimedia and our it is our comittment to co-facilitate this process through our products and services." stated Sebastian Moeritz, CEO of dicas.
