Recovering manic depressive reveals 'the other side' of sanity

Recovering manic depressive reveals 'the other side' of sanity - THE HOLY BOOK OF ILLUSION: A JOURNEY THROUGH MANIA

THE HOLY BOOK OF ILLUSION: A JOURNEY THROUGH MANIA
by Jessica Dolin ISBN 1-55369-507-0

This isn't like anything you've read about mania and bipolar disorder. THE HOLY BOOK OF ILLUSION author Jessica Dolin says, "Instead of writing a memoir which is full of remembrances of when I was 'crazy,' or writing on how it is cured, I composed a book during my mania - at the time I was most 'insane.' It reveals the hidden parts of myself that most people keep inside - too dark for anyone else to understand. Emotions are looked on as weak and evil things to be 'cured.' We must push all of our feelings inside. I couldn't hide them. As my thinking became more disordered the more out of phase I became with everyone else. Everything you will read gives insight into my progressive dysfunction as well as my struggle to recover."

Jessica's father also shares his journal entries during her episode. He shows the side of rational and normal thought while he watched her lose her mind.

"I want people to understand what went on inside my head," continues Dolin, "and to learn what may be going on with someone with a similar disorder. I want people to be more sympathetic and not be as scared of the mentally ill and realize they are not doing it for attention - they may be fighting awful hallucinations while their minds are not functioning well. Also, to realize that mental illness is as serious as physical sickness.

"I want you to open your minds to something totally different than any book you have read. In THE HOLY BOOK OF ILLUSION I poured my traumatized soul onto paper and that may be offensive to certain people. It does include controversial subjects and profanity, but remember, I wasn't sane. Welcome to the other side!"

Jessica Dolin is a recovering manic depressive who lives in Portland, Oregon with her girlfriend April and their three cats. She graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology.
