eLABS: TELCORDIA INTRODUCES NEW COURSE ON PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION METHODS

Telecom employees can learn professional installation methods via a CD.

LISLE, ILL. - July 15, 2002 - Skills-based training in the form of e-learning from Telcordia now covers another subject: Professional Installation Methods Overview. In receiving instruction in some of the technical and visual aspects of central office installation quality, students can immerse themselves in an instructor-led training session, then move into the lab for exposure to practical application -- and accomplish all of it with a CD called eLabs.

eLabs transforms the student's PC into a high-tech, virtual classroom and lab open for learning all the time. Through a blend of classroom lectures and lab equipment demonstrations, eLabs delivers job-critical, skills-based training in an easy-to-access, self-paced, interactive format. Without traveling or staying away for the job too long, students spend their time in a virtual Telcordia training classroom, learning from technical experts, then visiting a virtual Telcordia training lab for close-up looks at equipment related to their subject.

The main topics in the new eLabs course cover engineering concerns; pre-site survey; method of procedure; equipment installation procedures; ironwork and support structure; cable, wire, and connections; power arena; job completion and acceptance. The procedures and requirements are consistent with the latest industry requirements and standards. The course is based, in part, on the Telcordia Technologies documents, "Central Office Installation/Removal/Generic Requirements" (GR-1275-CORE), issue 3, December 2001; "Network Equipment Building Systems" (GR-63-CORE); and other Telcordia release documents.

After completing the course, students will be knowledgeable about generic requirements for quality installation activities, role of the method of procedure, craft/appearance requirements for hardware installation, items that may deviate from or conform to company guidelines using quality checklists, and safety concerns and procedures for installing AC and DC power.

The course takes four to five hours to complete. It is intended for installation vendors (engineers, supervisors, technicians) responsible for the installation of central office equipment. In addition, it is of benefit to space planners, central office supervisors, managers, technicians, and engineers.

Students control the pace, topic selections, and lesson sequencing. They also have the ability to review questions, focus extra study, print materials, and create a personalized reference binder.

Various flexible options are available for purchase or licensing. To obtain product details or ordering information, call 1-800-TEACH-ME or visit www.800teachme.com. A brochure about eLabs is also available upon request.
