Flirting with Fun First Date Ideas for the Summer?
Unique First Dates from the Dating Experts
DATELINE: HINGHAM, MA, JULY 9, 2002... Still trying to get mileage out of the prehistoric" notion of going to a movie theater on a first date? Although it may have worked well for you back in high school, todays dating scene requires a bit more imagination and the folks from the largest dating service in the world with over 80 locations throughout the U.S., The Right One and Together Dating can help.
Talk to Me
Its important to remember the purpose of a first date. You have met someone that you believe you could really like and a first date is a way to converse, share interests and get to know each other. If youre going to the movies, obviously, you wont be talking to each other," noted Paul Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating. Use your imagination. Do something that is lighthearted, fun and that you both would enjoy. First dates arent just for Saturday nights anymore-enjoy a date in the afternoon. During the day, people are less nervous and more at ease with themselves-its a great time to get to know one another."
The Right One and Together Dating have a few unique ideas to spice up a first date.
· Hot Air Balloon Ride. If the weather is fine, money is no object" and sailing high in the air is not a problem for either one of you, a hot air balloon ride is a breathtaking way to break the ice on a first date. Plan a picnic lunch afterwards and it makes for a brilliant adventure.
· Tourists for a day. Arrange to tour a local venue (there are quite a few along the Eastern Seaboard) that perhaps neither of you has been to before. Pretend to be tourists for a day, take photos, wear silly t-shirts, buy souvenirs and enjoy goofing around in each others company.
· Go dancing. From ballroom, country western, flamenco and hip-hop to line dancing, tango and swing, the dance scene is not limited in and around major cities. But, be sure to find out if your date can dance and what he/she likes to dance to before you head out.
· Read between the lines (on your palm of course). Have your palms read by a Palm Reader at a local Tea Room" or spiritual shop. Dish" about your destinies while you enjoy lunch or dinner afterward.
· Indulge in a favorite past time together. Love to golf? Why not play against each other? If you both enjoy the outdoors and crave adventure, how about sailing, snorkeling, horseback riding or ice skating? Afterwards, relax at a good, casual restaurant nearby to quench thirst and appetite. Be sure to plan ahead and know what eating establishments are in the area so youre not stuck searching for a place.
· Hit the Jazz club scene. Dont underestimate the ambiance of a Jazz club. Many Jazz clubs offer plush seating in a candlelit atmosphere that allows for conversation. Book your reservations for dinner at the club before the show and youll have an entire evening of romance ahead.
· Festive, Fairs and Festivals. Fairs, usually held between May and October, can provide for an interesting afternoon and offer you and your date a chance to walk, talk, eat and be merry in a casual atmosphere. Festivals, which can be found during any season with themes that range from Folk, Blues and Chamber Music to film, theater, boating and holiday, are an offbeat way to become better acquainted. Find out if your date is partial to the idea first though.
· Take a turn at a Museum. For a more refined date, plan a day at a fine art museum. You dont need to be an art expert and offer your opinion at every turn, but you (both) should possess some interest in art. Make it romantic by bringing a long-stemmed red rose-maybe even stroll arm in arm. Remember the day by purchasing a small gift such as a package of note cards featuring a reproduction of a painting you both liked.
· Enjoy a cruise. Again, if money is not an issue, take an afternoon excursion on a luxury yacht complete with delectable appetizers and wine. Or if you prefer a more affordable sea excursion, enjoy live evening entertainment on a riverboat that cruises around the harbor.
· Go to dinner. Dining out is an old stand-by that usually always rings true. Find out what you both like to eat and plan ahead. Make reservations well in advance for four-and five-star restaurants. Men, make a gesture of bringing flowers if you are meeting your date at her door, or a single rose if you meet at the restaurant. Ladies, dress up. Being overdressed is always better than risking too-casual attire.
· For the time-crunched professional-coffee or a drink is ideal. Since people are so busy with their professional lives nowadays, meeting for a first date over coffee or a drink is a good way to start. A nice, clean restaurant bar, a coffee or juice cafe with a pleasant atmosphere gives you a chance to converse and possibly plan another date.
According to Falzone, finding The Right One takes three basic ingredients:
· A positive attitude. No one really appreciates pessimism.
· A realistic set of expectations. People cant be cookie cut" from a machine.
· A willingness to be open and honest. Give people a chance and the benefit of the doubt. Dont disregard the person for superficial reasons such as how they sound on the telephone.
People now are less worried about meeting someone who is very wealthy or good looking," said Falzone. Honesty, sincerity and a sense of humor go a long way. People are more concerned with meeting someone with common interests that they can share with each other."
