Elk Fork Technologies upgrades elkMonitor Website Availability and Performance Monitoring Service

New features provide users with more detailed performance information, additional charting options, SMS alerting and more

Burnsville, North Carolina -- July 8, 2002: Elk Fork Technologies, Inc. today announced the availability of new features for its elkMonitor Website and server availability and performance monitoring service. The elkMonitor service remotely monitors a web servers performance and availability as frequently as every 5 minutes to assure its available and functioning properly. In the event of a failure the service will notify customer staff based on a user configured Notification list.

Additional Monitoring Detail
elkMonitors remote agents now provide more detailed information about each site test including the times to resolve the servers address using DNS, establish the socket connection, receive the first byte of data returned and the time till the last byte of content was received. IT staff can use this more detailed information to better identify the cause of performance problems such as overloaded servers or poor Internet connectivity.

Enhanced Charting and Reporting
elkMonitors enhanced charting functionality provides additional chart types giving users more flexibility in evaluating their systems response times. Additionally charts can be generated for longer time periods with the user specifying what data to chart and how it should be aggregated. New chart types include: Availability charts which allow users to see system availability over time, Error charts which highlight potential problems, and a new Component Chart which shows detailed response time over time.

By utilizing elkMonitors Full Page performance monitoring and the new charting options users can drill down to our new page level detail charts which allow users to see how each element on a page affects the download time of the page. This data can be invaluable in helping users to understand how each element such as images, style sheets, flash content affects the download time of their page. This level of detail also helps users to find content servers that may be performing poorly and therefore slowing down the complete page download time.

SMS Alert Support
elkMonitor broadens it's notification services reach with support for sending service notifications via Short Messaging Service (SMS) alerts[. This additional service allows users throughout the world to receive alerts on their cell phones or PDA devices.

User Agent Support
elkMonitor now allows user to specify the User-Agent string that is sent with website page requests. This will allow users to more thoroughly test sites that return different content based on the type of the browser requesting a page.
