DCN to Release Blue Mountain Tonight Its Now or Never" on August 13th
First live recording from alt-country legends taken from their final tour. Double-cd includes new live versions of songs taken from their decade long career.
New York - DCN announced today that it would release Blue Mountain: Tonight Its Now or Never, a live, retrospective double-disc set from one of alt-countrys seminal acts, on August 13th. It will be Blue Mountains first live release and their farewell album, as it was recorded during their final tour.
For nearly a decade, Blue Mountain delved into the Americana sound to produce some of the genres most critically acclaimed songs and albums. Led by singer/guitarist Cary Hudson and bassist Laurie Stirratt, Blue Mountain pioneered the roots rock revival with raw and heartfelt songs planted firmly in the American South and packaged in the form of stunning guitar work and powerhouse vocals.
Tonight Its Now or Never was recorded at Schubas in Chicago on March 11, 2001 and includes 21 previously unreleased versions of such fan favorites as Soul Sister," Generic America," and Black Dog" as well as the pre-Blue Mountain track Judgement Day." This live recording offers up an equal blend of acoustic tunes and electric numbers and focuses on the topics of love, longing, booze, and heartache - as well as the simple pleasures of rural America and rock and roll. Blue Mountain disbanded shortly after this performance.
Cary Hudson says of the record, Being in Blue Mountain was about reaching deep and going for it at every gig, and March 11,2001 at Schuba's was no exception. I'm really proud of the music that Laurie and I made together - we always believed in the power of playing from the heart and you can hear that on this recording." Laurie Stirratt adds, I'm happy to see a live Blue Mountain record released. It represents my appreciation of our fans and friends who helped make our live performances so much fun."
Cary Hudson has since released a solo record, The Phoenix, and recently returned from a European tour. He will return to the road next fall. Laurie Stirratt is collaborating with her twin brother John Stirratt (of Wilco) and will release a record of her own material in the next year.
Usher Winslett, COO of DCN, notes, We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such an important band on such a significant record. Critics have heaped praise on Blue Mountain for years, but its the fans who have seen them perform live in clubs around the world who really know how great this band was. Blue Mountain had the rare ability to take intelligent, heartfelt songs and serve them up in a rock-and-roll frenzy. Im glad that DCN will be able to give fans a chance to take home a taste of that experience.
