BALTIMORE, Jul 9, 2002 -- View Systems, Inc. (VYST), a premier provider of specialized products for the security and surveillance industries, today announced a next generation software upgrade for its award-winning SecureScan(TM) Concealed Weapons Detection (CWD) system.
The new software, SecondLOOK, makes it possible for personnel at security checkpoints to better manage foot traffic and flow as persons are scanned for weapons. The software is the result of ongoing collaboration with View System, Inc.'s aviation product licensee Quantum Magnetics (San Diego, California,) a wholly owned subsidiary of Newark, California-based InVision Technologies, Inc. (INVN).
Using a single camera, SecondLOOK displays and tracks more than one person at a time carrying concealed weapons, greatly simplifying the process of divesting suspicious objects. The proprietary dual image display (DID) helps security personnel not lose sight of individuals as they pass through security checkpoints during peak use periods.
The software provides greater accuracy and a new feature that pinpoints and places a colored dot (alarm) within a few inches over the on-screen image of a person carrying a concealed weapon through the portal.
Together, the SecureScan walk-through portal and SecondLOOK software detect and more accurately pinpoint the location, size and number of concealed weapons, such as knives, box cutters and guns, while allowing personal items like pocket change, keys, pens to pass without alarming the system, greatly improving security checkpoint screening efficiency.
Funding for the new software came from a United Kingdom Home Office Grant awarded to Quantum Magnetics to meet a very specific set of requirements for Quantum's iPortal(TM).
Together with ongoing technical support from the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, Quantum Magnetics and funding from the Department of Justice, View Systems is continuing to develop product enhancements to their weapons detection technology.
"Releasing periodic software products is just one of the big advantages of using a standard Windows operating system with SecureScan," said Paul Reep, president and chief operating officer of View Systems, Inc. "We are now in the process of providing upgrades to our customers, which to them, is just like getting a brand new system. Industry-leading software and ongoing free upgrades is what really differentiates us in the market and is a large part of the SecureScan value proposition."
