Syntek delivers GeneCite software research tool for Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.
Bioinformatics and software develpment. New client and product.
Bethesda, MD - - July 13, 2002 - - Syntek Systems Corporation, Inc., a software engineering services company, announces the delivery of GeneCite version 1.0 to Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, the Armys center for complex care, clinical education and clinical research. GeneCite is a software tool designed for genomics and protenomics research, using the NIH PubMed database.
GeneCite version 1.0 is a specialized research tool, implemented in Java, to help identify citations of interest to a researcher. The application takes numerous gene names (including multiple synonyms) as input and queries the NIH PubMed database to get the number of citations for each pair of genes. It then presents them to the researcher with hyperlinks to PubMed, so the researcher can instantly further examine the abstracts for gene pairs which are of interest based on the number of citations found. The use of GeneCite significantly reduces the researchers effort to analyze the results of a query.
The need for this application was identified by Dr. Rasha Hammamieh of Walter Reed, and GeneCite was designed and developed by Syntek staff. The first version was released in June of 2002 and an additional enhanced version is to follow in the near future.
Syntek was a excellent partner for the development of the GeneCite analysis tool," said Dr. Hammamieh. Their developers were able to quickly understand our existing research need and develop a software tool that increases our researchers productivity."
This effort was an excellent opportunity to develop a Syntek product to help support Walter Reeds research needs," said Stuart Golub, Syntek Vice President. Syntek is dedicated to bioinformatics applications development and this work at Walter Reed expands Synteks life sciences focus. We are in an excellent position to help Walter Reed and other organizations with their bioinformatics needs."
Walter Reed Army Institute of Research is a division of Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital based in Silver Spring, MD. It is Walter Reeds mission to develop leadership in clinical readiness for combat and contingency missions and to exploit advances in wellness, prevention and disease outcome management for maximum quality of life and health.
