Performance Conversions' FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) For Beechcraft King Air C90 Walter/Avia Conversion Approved By Brazilian Aviation Authority
INCLINE VILLAGE, Nevada, July 11, 2002 - Performance Conversions Group (PCG) today announced that its FAA STC covering firewall-forward conversion of the Beechcraft King Air C90 series to Walter M601E?11 engines and Avia V.510 propellers is recognized by Brazil's Aerospace Technical Center (Brazil's counterpart to the FAA). The economical Walter-Avia conversion provides better performance and quieter operation, as well as lowering overhaul costs by roughly 60 percent over the aircraft's original equipment.
Manufactured by Walter a.s., a Czech-based ISO 9001 company, the 750 hp M601E-11 turboprop offers 657 shaft HP (torque limited to 550 HP for takeoff). The M601E-11 is a derivative of the Walter M601, an engine in continuous operation since 1976 that has logged more than 12 million flight hours, establishing a reputation for operational simplicity and reliability in the world's harshest climates.
"We're simply taking a great airplane and making it better. The Walter-Avia conversion is the most intelligent upgrade available for the C / E 90 series King Air," says Walter C90 development pilot and PCU Director of R&D, David Belton. "The cost of conversion after selling your removed equipment is about the same as overhauling a pair of PT6A-20s. But the Walters provide better performance; cost less to operate, maintain, and overhaul; as well as offering unique safety features not available with the Pratts."
Key Features of the Walter-Avia King Air conversion:
· Reduce engine overhaul costs by around 60 percent
· Reduce maintenance downtime (no mid-life accessory overhaul, fuel-nozzle maintenance or hot-section inspections)
· Fly up to 40 knots faster (true airspeed)
· Increase cruising altitude (up to 25,000 feet)
· Measurably reduce vibration and noise inside and outside the aircraft
· Significantly shorten takeoff and landing requirements
· Increase maximum takeoff weight and climb rate
· Raisbeck strakes improve stability
· Integral engine limiter prevents hot starts and overloading
The Performance Conversions Group (PCG) includes Performance Conversions Ltd. (PCL), a private U.S. company in Incline Village, Nevada, and Performance Conversions Unlimited, LLC, a private U.S. R&D company located in Green Bay, Wisconsin. PCL has exclusive rights to market the conversions covered by the Supplemental Type Certificates held by PCU in the U.S. and Brazil for high-performance, low-cost Walter-Avia conversions, which currently cover the Beechcraft King Air C / E 90 series. The PCU R&D group plans to expand by developing additional STCs for Walter-Avia conversions of other twin- and single-engine aircraft. For more information, visit www.performanceconversions.com.
