DAVE KOZ AND FRIENDS HELP BABIES FIND GOLDEN SLUMBERS WITH NEW CD
Lullaby Collection Marks Debut of Kozs Rendezvous Entertainment, CD In
Stores September 24
LOS ANGELES -- July 11, 2002 -- Renowned saxophonist Dave Koz leads the
line-up on a new multi-artist disc, Golden Slumbers: A Fathers Lullaby,
a unique collection of classic lullabies performed by some of todays
top instrumentalists. Golden Slumbers arrives in stores September 24
and marks the debut of Kozs new label, Rendezvous Entertainment.
Today, more than ever, fathers are discovering new purpose and
fulfillment in the care and nurture of their children. In celebration of
this very special bond between father and child, Rendezvous
Entertainment, in association with Warner Bros. Records, is releasing
Golden Slumbers: A Fathers Lullaby.
Featuring performances by Dave Koz, Rick Braun, Jeff Koz, Norman Brown,
John Stoddart, Brian Culbertson, David Benoit, Peter White and others,
Golden Slumbers: A Fathers Lullaby creates soothing, comforting musical
soundscapes to both lull young listeners to sleep and delight music fans
of all ages. Tracks include "When You Wish Upon A Star," "Blackbird,"
"Brahms Lullaby," "You Can Close Your Eyes," "Somewhere Over The
Rainbow," "Isnt She Lovely" and eight others, all performed by artists
who have recently become fathers, godfathers or uncles.
Golden Slumbers is the first release from the newly formed Rendezvous
Entertainment, co-founded by Dave Koz with partners Hyman Katz and Frank
Cody, and will be the first of several projects between the media
company and the jazz division of Warner Bros. Records.
The inspiration for Golden Slumbers came with the birth of Jordan Koz,
daughter of keyboardist/guitarist Jeff Koz and niece of saxophonist and
radio personality Dave Koz.
"The credit really goes to my sister-in-law Unique, who was having
trouble getting my niece to sleep," remarks Dave. "She discovered that
most of the lullaby recordings on the market were very lively and bright
and seemed to stimulate the baby rather than sooth and relax her. Unique
suggested that Jeff and I put together a few tracks that would create a
more comforting, relaxing environment in the nursery."
As an experiment, the Koz brothers recorded instrumental versions of
"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and the Beatles classic "Blackbird." The
trial worked and the concept grew as Dave and Jeff recruited a number of
other top artists, many of whom had recently become parents as well,
including Rick Braun, David Benoit, Peter White and John Stoddart. Along
the way, the project began to take shape, not only as a way to help
infants find a peaceful slumber, but as a celebration of the treasured
bond between fathers and their children. For several of the musicians
featured on the CD, the songs they chose to perform have special
significance from their own childhood.
A limited edition preview of the album features five selections and is
currently available only to audiences at Dave Koz & Friends: Smooth
Summer Nights concert series. The nationwide tour, currently in
progress, includes a "Golden Slumbers" medley performed by Dave Koz,
Brian Culbertson and Norman Brown. The tour comes to The Greek Theater
in Los Angeles (7/13) and the JVC Jazz Festival in Chicago (7/19).
A Golden Slumbers Web site (http://www.goldenslumbers.net) launches
today. The site will provide a wide variety of parenting resources as
well as an innovative interactive portion where new parents can create
and send electronic birth announcements featuring personal photographs
accompanied by music from the disc.
