The ABA Banking Journal, official publication of the American Bankers Association, has released the results of its 2002 survey of the top performing banks in America, and has named The Oaks Bank & Trust Company as second in the country and first in Texas among best-performing non-S banks with total assets under $100 million.

This is the second year that Dallas-based Oaks Bank, with current assets of $85 million, has placed second on the ABA Banking Journal list of best-performing banks. Oaks Bank was also recognized in BusinessWeek in 2001 for its premium on customer service.
The new list is published in the July issue of the ABA Banking Journal along with the rankings for subchapter S corporations with under $1 billion in assets, savings and thrifts with under $1 billion in assets, and non-S corporations with total assets between $100 million and $1 billion. Ratings were based on a five-year average return on equity from data provided by SNL Financial LC and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Six other Texas community banks are named in the 2002 list of best-performing non-S banks with total assets under $100 million, including Eden State Bank in Eden (No. 5), First National Bank in Bellville (No. 7), Citizens State Bank in Princeton (No. 19), Bank of Crowley in Crowley (No. 26), Farmers & Merchants State Bank in Krum (No. 39), and Sundown State Bank in Sundown (No. 40).
