Most recently, on July 9, 2002, United States patent number 6,416,510, entitled "Drug Delivery Catheters that Attach to Tissue and Methods for their Use", was issued to BioCardia. This patent covers specifics of the design of BioCardias anchoring helical infusion catheter and the method of its use for administering various therapeutics to the heart. United States patent numbers 6,358,247 and 6,346,099 were also recently allowed. BioCardia's patent portfolio now includes twenty issued US patents and a smaller number of international patents with many more pending. Each issued patent strengthens BioCardia as a company committed to enabling the safe and effective local delivery of biopharmaceuticals to the heart.

Today, world-class biopharmaceutical teams using BioCardia catheter systems are actively pursuing (1) cell therapies to treat congestive heart failure (CHF), (2) gene and protein therapies to promote new vessel growth as a means of revascularizing ischemic myocardium in coronary artery disease (CAD), and (3) controlled release formulations to administer hydrophilic agents to the arterial wall periadvanticially to limit restenosis (RS).

Recent abstract and article publications and submissions support the potential advantages of local intramyocardial delivery using the BioCardia Helical Infusion Systems for CAD, CHF, and RS. These publications include: a presentation entitled "Exploring Cardiac Lymphatics in Local Drug Delivery" presented at the Lymphatic Research Forum at the National Institute of Health in May, two posters presented at the American Society for Gene Therapy in June, four abstracts submitted for presentation at the Transcatheter Therapeutics Conference in Washington in September, and eight abstracts submitted for presentation to the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions in Chicago in November.
