Undaunted by Economy, Harvard/MIT Student-Run Company Releases Web-Based Software

Despite difficult economic conditions, a student-run company has succeeded in creating web-based software that allows customers to make their own web sites quickly and easily.

Think Computer Corporation today announced the availability of its Whiteboard content management software for general beta testing.

Background

For the average computer user, nothing is easier to do than browse the World Wide Web. Think Computers Whiteboard software uses the simplicity of the Web to do what is otherwise complicated: update web sites. Whiteboard itself is actually a web site, which in turn allows users to design or update their own sites. Instead of spending weeks learning how to use File Transfer Protocol clients, HTML editors, and so-called integrated development environments," anyone can get their own web site up and running within minutes using Whiteboard.

Content management software programs such as Whiteboard have become increasingly popular in recent years as companies have needed to organize the vast amounts of information on their web sites. Multi-million dollar systems are now plentiful, but there very few inexpensive systems capable of yielding professional-grade web sites. The web sites that most low-cost packages generate are easily identifiable due to their poorly-conceptualized layouts and cookie-cutter pages. Whiteboard is the exception to the rule; with a projected retail price of only $100.00, the potential for individuals and businesses to create their own professional sites will finally exist outside the walls of the Fortune 500.

"Whiteboard has turned out to be even better than I had expected," said Aaron Greenspan, President and CEO of Think Computer. Especially with regard to our own web site, which is powered by Whiteboard, weve been able to drastically reduce the amount of time it takes to create and update pages."

Features

The software is in the beta stage of its initial version, but already features the following:
- Automatic Conversion of Microsoft Word Documents to HTML
- Automatic HTML Formatting
- Design Templates
- Search Engine Rank Enhancement Tools
- Workflow Control
- Standard File Output
- Security for Multiple Users
- One-Click Site Backup and Restore
- Archival of Old Content
- Comprehensive Search Capabilities

Availability

Beta testing is expected to continue through the fall until the program is ready for general sales. Beta testers are encouraged to sign up to test the software through the companys Crashtest Network at http://www.thinkcomputer.net.
