Wendy Johnson Gives Voice to the Private Hopes and Dreams of Regular People with her Series of Contemporary Artwork, Above the Noise":

"Above the noise of everyday responsibility and duty I hear my dreams calling me to come for them. They whisper to me in my sleep and plead for freedom from the shadows of my private heart."

DALLAS, TX -- June 28, 2002 -- Please join us at Dulce Interior Consignment Showplace for a weekend gallery exhibit, "Above The Noise", a collection of work exploring the private hopes and dreams of regular people and their struggle for the courage to bring those dreams to life. Dulce is located at 2914 Oak Lawn Avenue, Dallas, Texas. For more information, please call 214-219-5656. Opening Reception: Friday, August 16th, 8P-12P. Exhibit runs through Sunday, August 18th.

When contemporary artist Wendy Johnson found herself among the thousands of North Texans laid off after the tragedy of September 11th, she realized it was time to face her fear and take a chance on herself. She plunged headfirst into launching her art career full-time.

Ms. Johnson had been successfully running Original Art by Wendy Johnson in the background of her already abundant life, waking at 5:00 a.m. to paint before she and her young daughter started their morning sprint to daycare and a corporate job. It was exhausting, but very rewarding to find an audience for my artwork while still maintaining the security of a regular paycheck with a job I enjoyed," says Johnson.

Her artwork had found an audience. Almost from the moment Wendy Johnson unveiled her contemporary abstract artwork in the spring of 1999, people across the United States, collectors and curators alike, identified with the visual commentaries on everyday life that Ms. Johnsons original works of art brought to life. She gives voice to the private hopes and dreams of regular people and their struggle for the courage to bring those dreams to life. Her work eloquently captures the power of otherwise fleeting moments with daring texture and fabulously layered colors, and reminds us to untangle ourselves from the 'managing of our lives and stretch beyond perceived limitations to reclaim the joy of living.

Growing up in a small, family owned print shop, Ms. Johnson had no delusions about the sacrifice and long hours involved in running a business. And beyond the common small business risks, exposing her private thoughts through artistic expression was especially distressing for the artist. Im not marketing some mass-produced widget thatll make your life simpler. My artwork is a very personal part of me. Thoughts and emotions I am unable to express with words find their way onto the canvas to be dissected, judged, and hopefully appreciated by the viewer. Sharing something so personal is a very scary, very daring venture." She adds, I highly recommend it."

Ms. Johnson admits to spending many years painting secretly before her partner Charles Olson nudged her into the public eye and encouraged her to exhibit her work. I think most people have already identified their talents but discard them in favor of more conventional paths. While it may seem the safer route, it will no doubt lead to regret," says Johnson. I want to encourage those people to tune out the noise and listen to the whisper of their dreams."

With titles such as Dreams, Hopes, and Aspirations", Contemplating a Retreat", and Beneficial Conflict", this latest collection of work from Wendy Johnson is worthy of a closer look by anyone who ever considered risking everything to follow their dreams. Opening Reception: Friday, August 16th, 8P-12P. Exhibit runs through Sunday, August 18th. Dulce Interior Consignment Showplace is located at 2914 Oak Lawn Avenue, Dallas, Texas.
