NATICK, MA - In an independent study conducted in June of 2002, TackleMaking analysts reviewed the frequency of searches for specific species of fish on top internet search engines that participate in the Overture.com advertising system.
The study revealed that of a test group of 98,802 species-specific keyword searches, black bass emerged as the most searched for species on the Internet with more than 40% of searches. Salmon and trout placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. The study made accomodations for poor spelling and name variations.
The full results of the study can be seen on TackleMaking.com's fishing industry website at http://www.tacklemaking.com/industry/.
The findings of the study came as a surprise to many in the industry, who expected the figures to have a close correlation to the popularity of specific fish among US fishermen, which place panfish in the top three. In the TackleMaking study, panfish comprised less than 2% of the total Internet searches.
